I enjoyed reading Harry's experiences at Hogwarts during his third year. The plot started slowing a bit in the middle, but the end was really strong, even when I remembered the plot from the movie.
The characters are coming stronger and the story has more depth. The first two books might have actually been a bit light. Reread 7/12/10: I read this again while sick at home for comfort over the weekend. This was the Harry Potter novel where I just got into it and couldn't quit the first time I read the series, which is a bit surprising since Dumbledore is mostly absent. I love the Lupin and the Marauders, and the Weasley's get to be themselves. It helped me get through a yucky day to visit them all again

borrowed from valerie. definitely the best of the first three, although some of rowling's plot devices are wearing a bit thin already. maybe it's just me, but the quidditch matches seem kind of boring.
