Bilbo Baggins was like any ordinary hobbit, homely, a bit lazy, never causing any trouble, then comes Gandalf and an impromptu meeting with a bunch of dwarves and suddenly he's on a journey that none of his kind have likely taken.
I had my doubts about JRR Tolkien, but I read the Hobbit and for some reason I actually liked it. It surprises me because I'm not a big fan of the Lord of the Rings book trilogy (I'm still having trouble with patience in finishing the Fellowship of the Ring!)

I have to admit that I am biased in my stars on this one. This book will always have a special place on my shelf. It was the very first book I read on my own. I was very young and I got so wrapped up in tolkien's world that I'd have to say I found my love for reading in it. I have yet to read back through it again, but I'm sure it would hold up under the test of time. I highly recommend it.

Wow what I can say except this is one the best books ever created by the imagination of man! It is the perfect first step into the wonderful world of Tolkien. Bilbo Baggins is one my favorite literary characters and proves that great things can come in small packages. If you have never read Tolkein definately check out this book!
