OK, it deserves 4 stars for originality in world building and the unique magic system he portrays. I like how this wasn’t the innocent farm boy who discovers the nugget of ultimate goodness within himself and is urged on to destroy the evil lord with the cudgel of supreme force by the beautiful princess he can never hold hands with…blah, blah, blah. Here we have a street girl who doesn’t trust anyone, is recruited into a gang but doesn’t lead the way. A satisfying, if slightly bloated story. The

Well realized and detailed world, clear characters, and a very visual style of storytelling - the thing played as a movie in my head. Character growth is somewhat limited but forgivable. But why do you want to read this book? The fight scenes. Seriously. They are so so so good. New mechanism and AND it makes fight scenes fantastic? Hell yes I'm in. The rest of the writing is plenty good enough for me to keep going. I like Sanderson's style - simple but very very very good for what it's shooting

I was really impressed with the creativity and thought that clearly went into designing the system of magic in this book. The writing is excellent as well. I can't wait to read the other books in this series, and I am really excited to see what Sanderson does with the 12th book of the Wheel of Time series.

This is one of the most inventive works of fantasy I've read in a while. Sanderson has invented a system where certain people can ingest tiny amounts of metal and utilize these metals to unlock powers, such as enhanced senses or great strength. On this world where an immortal Lord Ruler has complete control, rebellion is usually never even whispered about, but one Mistborn, Kelsior, hatches a plan to overthrow the Lord Ruler with the help of his friends. This is a book bursting with adventure an

This was fine, it just wasn't what I was looking for. A Song of Ice and Fire really got me in the mood for some more epic, gritty, complex fantasy, and this was none of those things. I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would, though. I'm not sure when I'll get to the rest of the series, but it probably won't be soon.

Right on the 3/4 border for me. Fun story, cool/novel magic, decent characters, and some good moral complexity. The overall writing was basically solid, but I like my books more literary: more _great_ prose, please. Even though the world is a very dark one, somehow the fantasy ends up feeling light -- maybe it's intended as a young-adult work; if not, it's too light for me. BUT, it makes for an easy read, which is just the thing sometimes.

I liked the magic system. The two main characters were pretty likeable.
It was just too long for what it is. The same story in half the pages would have been much better.
