It took me more than 100 pages to get into the story, but Lynch pulled through in the end. I think the biggest failing was that we start off with a big con about to begin and we're not in on it. Because of this, we actually can relate more to the marks than the Gentlemen Bastards we're supposed to be rooting for. This seems to have been done for the false tension when the plan turns out to be even more devious than we'd assumed.

Fun, entertaining, excellently paced with intriguing characters and a hell of a plot. The world, while reasonably well constructed, did occasionally seem a bit more like window dressing than fully realized. But the plot, the unpulled gut punches and the sheer exuberance of the book more than made for that.
Will definitely be hunting down the sequels.
