As usual Anne McCaffrey does a great job of introducing her world. We meet the main character, Killashandra Ree after her greatest failure. She has a chance encounter with a Crystal Singer and decides to pursue a career as one herself.
Then, we are off to Ballybran where we are introduced to the planet, its people in their various roles, the Heptite Guild, the types of crystal.
