This was a 2nd or maybe a 3rd reread. Still enjoying and funny. Onward to the rest of the series (bit by bit) between new books.

Up to now I hadn't read anything by John Scalzi, which is a bit of a faux pas in SF fan circles these days. So I started, somewhat unoriginally, with the book everyone mentions.
Old Man's War is what I think of in my head when I talk about written science fiction. It's set in the future, it has weird alien races, advanced science and a fair amount of action.

First in a science fiction series that had an interesting set-up, likable characters, and lots of space opera type action.

The only thing I didn't like about this book or its sequel, Ghost Brigades, was the snarky attitude from just about every character encountered. Everyone seemed glib and witty. Perhaps this personality was a side effect of the process of becoming a soldier.

Wow! This was probably the best science fiction book I've ever read. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
