This is a book for those who love the idea of the circus, were enchanted with its possibilities, but were disappointed with the shabby reality.

The "duel" the magicians engage in is not what you would normally think of as a duel, with dangerous and lethal energies bent to the destruction of an opponent. It is more along the lines of an artistic competition to see who can come up with the most imaginative, magical, amazing and wondrous circus attraction.

That said, this really is a book more about

I loved The Night Circus. The writing seems to cast a spell, which is appropriate because this is a book full of magic at the greatest, most inventive circuses of all time. Morgenstern's imagination transported me, and I didn't want to leave. Add a love story between two dueling magicians, whose battleground is inventing feats for the circus, and you have the makings of a one-of-a-kind reading experience.

Poetic, lyrical, magical, sensual- this book was a delight to read, and I found myself compelled to read some of the more descriptive passages to others while I was engaged in the story. I so wish I could buy a ticket to Le Cirque des Reves!

I would recommend it to anyone who does not mind a bit of magic in their lives, and who is looking for a delectable and deep story to fall into. Content is appropriate for older teens (there may have been some cursing, though very mild, and kissing).

I didn't hate it, but I was happy to be done with it when I finally finished it. Not a bad first novel, but not as startling or original as all that, either. Long.

Haunting, intriguing, stimulating, heartbreaking - I could describe this book in a million different ways. I loved this book, I loved reading it I loved falling in love with it - I even loved being confused by it. The time jumping took some getting used to and the present tense voice also took some getting used to but it was well worth it. This is a unique and thought provoking book. I loved the authors wild imagination and how she made it fit into the real world!
