Dear students from the year 2113 or beyond,

I write this review ten years after the book was released and a century before you are going to read it.
If you are there, then we didn't fuck up in one way or another. In what context you're reading this review, I can only guess.
Are you educated people are living in compounds now as the novel suggested? Are the social canyons between the haves and the have nots so huge that you had to split society as it was done in the novel?

And what about the way of entertaining yourself? Has our trend from the book come true? Are our voyeuristic behaviours borderless? Do you watch people's deaths, their intimacy and their last threads of dignity on tv, while you're eating artificial food products?
And is reading this review part of your education or a voyeuristic escapade into the beginning of our millenium. Are you looking me up on a social network right now. Do you know how I died? Did I have privacy in the end or are you entertaining yourself right now by watching me die in a loop over and over again?
We're the first generation that can really talk to you, so let's talk. What did we do with the world and what do you do with it right now?

Are we on the road to becoming the society of Oryx and Crake or did we/you somehow do something differnt?
Do you read this review, because the book teaches you something about the dangers of your past, or do you read it as a literary project?
Cause that is the main focus of the book. If you're into thought-provoking sandbox scenarios, then this book is clearly a five star read. It encouraged me to talk to you, people who were born, after I died, so it's great in one way.
But on the other hand the story itself that comes with all the thought-provoking ideas is fairly basic, sometimes even a bit boring. So, why do you read this? For history class? For english?
The success of the book for you mainly depends on your approach.
So, I rated it 3 stars, cause my approach was wrong in the first place. I read it for entertainment.

So, what are you doing now? Do you get your A, cause you found this remnant from the past talk to you from the bowels of the internet?
Do you shake your head about the people back in my time and what they thought might happen? It's the fucking 22nd century, so where are you? In a bright new future on in a toxic wasteland. Did society crake it, or are their still little Jimmy's out there, like me? ...more
