This was a great book. It was a real page turner that I couldn't put down at all. This book could have made me stay up all night and call in sick just so I could finish it. It's one of the most horrific books I've ever read. And definitely the most engrossing.

I found the first part of the book was harder to swallow because of how bad they all have it and how messed up a world they live in. Especially that it was my first Dystopian novel. The second part was very interesting and extremely captiv ...more

There is so much hype about the Hunger Games and they turn into a movie as well. It's wow how everyone loves them that much. So i really wanted to try them before the movie comes out and because i wanted to have an opinion about them after all.

Firstly, i need to say it's the first dystopian book i read so i can't compare it with something like it. It took me some time to get used to both the writing and that kind of world. The writing reminded me more of a diary than the usual first person POV w There is so much hype about the Hunger Games and they turn into a movie as well. It's wow how everyone loves them that much. So i really wanted to try them before the movie comes out and because i wanted to have an opinion about them after all.

Firstly, i need to say it's the first dystopian book i read so i can't compare it with something like it. It took me some time to get used to both the writing and that kind of world. The writing reminded me more of a diary than the usual first person POV where the person says what it feels and sees. And as for the world, it's not easy to imagine our own world destroyed and in such a bad situation. Anyway, after the first 3-4 chapters i got the handle of it.

The book is written in parts. First part, is everything that happens before Katniss get picked for the Hunger Games and the whole preparasion after she is picked (interviews, training,etc) - which is almost half the book. So you get to see both how she lived and how she was when everything changed.I have to say that was the worst part of the book for me. I got really bored with what i was reading. Mostly cause of two things: 1. We get many flashbacks. And those flashbacks are between scenes and i don't like have scenes stopped for flashbacks. 2. I do not care how all those dresses were, how they made her looks different and small scenes like that which were many.

Then we have the Hunger Games part which is the most enjoyable part of the book. I have to admit i didn't expect so much violence and action. It was fantastic and you finally see what kind of person Katniss is. Strong, loyal, clever, risky. The excitement and the anxiety i felt for the players was like wow. It had some really clever traps around and if you weren't a good hunter there no way to survive (also not afraid to kill others).

As for the romance of the book, i was expecting to have bigger part at the story from what i was seeing around. And i can't say it was something special, neither can see how they will make more "important" in the movie.None of the boys, Gale or Peeta caught my attention and i did find Peeta annoying and TOO good at times. And you don't really get to see much of Gale anyway.

Did Hunger Games was what i waiting for? No. It was better. And i totally recommend it at least to anyone who plans to watch the movie next year.

Now, i need to say something else too. If you are new to the series i think you should not read the next books. I will review them later but i can say now that they are not that good. The only question the 1st book leaves is who Katniss choose (Gale or Peeta) which i don't see it as that important. At least, i know i wish i had stopped. ...more

I've heard so much about this series and wondered what all the fuss was about, so I finally decided to jump into it head first and find out for myself. I'm glad that I did.

"The Hunger Games" is an amazingly gripping tale of a young girl that takes her sister's place in a deadly game. I was mesmerized not only by the game, but the fantastic characters. Wow. I was barely able to put this book down for a second after the first few pages got me completely hooked. Suzanne Collins narrative here has an immediacy to it that, when combined with the very dramatic life-or-death plot, is incredibly compelling. It's entertaining, and incredibly disturbing all at once. She’s soon thrown into a life-changing experience she will never forget, if she survives. Her hunting and survival skills are put to the ultimate test, along with her heart.

Of course, I had to see what the hype was all about, and when I saw this series was moving to the big screen, I wanted to jump on board before the release date. I am absolutely not sorry that I did. The Hunger Games is an absolute page-turner that I did not want to put down for one second (though I had to a few times… wah!).

Katniss is sixteen years old and fighting for her life. The future of our world is dark and uncertain, forcing children to hunt and care for their families in the most primitive of ways. It’s hard for us to imagine ever being in such a situation, but when you think about it, it IS happening in our world right now. There ARE children starving; there ARE children fighting for their lives, maybe not in such an organized fashion, but it is happening. And that is very, very sad.

It is so easy to fall into this world, so easy to become entirely absorbed into Katniss’s life and struggles. You can’t help but love Gale and the bond the he and Katniss share, but at the same time, you fall for Peeta too. And you are completely torn as the tragedy that only one tribute can come out of the Games alive hovers around the edges of the entire plot. The romance doesn’t overtake the story, however. It is very much about the Games and the struggles of the districts. The romance just softens things up and adds another dimension to the story.

There’s not much else to say about this book. It is fantastic, very well written, and something you will not regret picking up. I can’t wait to dive into book two of the series, Catching Fire, and see how this book is translated into film later this month.

There are no words to describe this book! No way to capture just how amazing it is.

This book is so unlike anything else I have read, it is so powerful and gripping and incredible in every sense of the word.

Katniss truly is the girl on fire. She is powerful and strong and a survivor. I admire her so much (even though she can be annoyingly dense at times)

This book had me crying, gasping, and gaping in amazement. I could not put it down!

Well, i liked this book, a lot. I had heard about it from a lot of people so thought id read it to see what all the fuss was about and now? Im completely hooked and waiting for the second book to arrive! I really liked the main charecter Katniss Evergreen and thought she was a easy charecter to connect to as well which made me connect with her more. The main boy, Peeta, wasn't too bad either. He wasn't a natural survivor like Katniss but he adapts well. My favourite charecter in the book though, ...more
