After North America was almost destroyed, the nation of Paem emerges. There are 12 districts which they keep under a tight rein by staging The Hunger Games each year. Where two "tributes" from each district fight to the death in an arena. This has become great entertainment. This year, Kaitliss' sister is chosen as tribute so she steps in to take Prim's place.

The Hunger Games was a fast-paced, well written story that grips you from the first sentence and doesn't let go. It's one of those stories that you can't get out of your head, one that haunts your dreams.
I love to read action and adventure stories. This one was definitely not lacking in action! And Katniss is a wonderful character. Peeta is so sweet, Gale a perfect best friend.

This is one of the best books I've ever read (on the "science-fiction" shelf). I can't tell you how much I loved it. It can't be described with words nor shown in any other way (maybe by seeing me drooling and squeaking with sheer excitement:D) . A perfect combination of horror, romance, action, silly, random, ... The loveable characters, and the plot was so original!
I'm really impressed, Susanne Collins. Kapo dol.

I've heard so much about this series and wondered what all the fuss was about, so I finally decided to jump into it head first and find out for myself. I'm glad that I did.
"The Hunger Games" is an amazingly gripping tale of a young girl that takes her sister's place in a deadly game. I was mesmerized not only by the game, but the fantastic characters. Katniss is one character that I cannot get out of my mind; she's everything you could ever want in a heroine. The other participants in the game a ...more

I'm late jumping on The Hunger Games bandwagon, but better late than never!
There were a lot of expectations for this book. I have heard so many things about it over the years so there was a lot of pressure.
From the first chapter this book had my attention. It was slow starting for me and at first I found I read only one chapter at a time, as opposed to gobbling large chunks of it in one sitting that is usual for me.
Katniss's world at first is a bleak one. The author describes her surroundings p ...more

There are no words to describe this book! No way to capture just how amazing it is.
This book is so unlike anything else I have read, it is so powerful and gripping and incredible in every sense of the word.
Katniss truly is the girl on fire. She is powerful and strong and a survivor. I admire her so much (even though she can be annoyingly dense at times)
This book had me crying, gasping, and gaping in amazement. I could not put it down!

This book has been on my TBR list forever, and for some odd reason I just can't make myself read it, and I am not entirely sure why!! However, I recently purchased a copy at a local book exchange near my house for $5.00, so I am hoping to start reading it shortly. I think I have put it off long enough!:-)
UPDATE: So I finally read this book, and I liked it, but it isn't one of my favorite. I will definitely read the other two books, and I will definitely see the movie that is coming out in March! ...more

Rereading the Hunger Games after such a long time I expected it not to hold up to my teenage memory. It, however, held strong enough to retain its original five star rating.
It was emotional, full of suspense and actually had a good ending that didn't feel like a money grab when it lead into another book.
I will forever be bitter about the love triangle. I'm of the strong opinion that no love triangles should exist in books. ...more
