I adore YA fiction. I really do. So when I stumble upon a good one, I’m so joyful I want to jump. My Soul to take made me want to do just that.
First things first: I strongly recommend reading the series prequel, My soul to lose, before starting the first book. Everything is so much clearer that way, and you get to know the main characters a little bit. The short story can be found on Rachel Vincent’s web site.

These books so rarely manage to genuinely surprise me anymore. But I have to admit (w I adore YA fiction. I really do. So when I stumble upon a good one, I’m so joyful I want to jump. My Soul to take made me want to do just that.

These books so rarely manage to genuinely surprise me anymore. But I have to admit (without writing any spoilers) that there were some things in My soul to take that I honestly didn’t see coming. I was left with my mouth open and I even let out a few very, very bad words. (But don’t tell my baby daughter or she’ll start repeating them instantly!)

Kaylee is actually likeable. She is smart, funny at times (though never sarcastic, which I also like), she adapts really fast and she never ever has those moments of stupidity that so many of the other female characters seem to have. You know, those I-don’t-see-what’s-right-in-front-of-my-nose moments that make you want to throw your book through the window.

I just recently finished Vincent’s Shifters series and I find this one so much better. Where Faythe is spoiled, immature, unsophisticated and at times really stupid, Kaylee is quite the opposite. Ms. Vincent should limit herself to YA. Let’s all stick to what we’re good at. The world will be infinitely better.

I feel the need to explain myself a little here: when I say I appreciate the lack of sarcasm in Kaylee, I don’t mean I don’t enjoy sarcasm at all. In fact, I like my adult heroines sarcastic as hell. But when it comes to YA fiction, I always have my 14 year old niece in mind: teenagers are sarcastic enough without being encouraged.

The only thing that really bothers me is that I see a Kaylee-Nash-Tod love triangle coming. Vincent sure loves her damn triangles. I thought we could avoid it just this once, but no such luck. I fear I might develop an allergic reaction.

I already started the second book. I probably won’t get much sleep tonight, but who needs sleep anyway, right?

I really think this was a great start to a series. There was a lot of world building going on so it moves a little slow in places but overall I think this will be a fantastic series!

Very average reading book easy to read very obvious plot however and the charectors were
common and nothing very interesting if i may say so and i had to take a star off for the
HORRIBLE cover!!!
