When you start this book, it's useful to know that McKinley is going to flashback. I didn't know that and had to go back and reread some parts to understand. Great story, but just drags on a bit too long. If you ask me, Blue Sword should have been the newberry winner, not this one, but it's still pretty darn amazing.
