This book took my breath away. My gandfather and two great aunts all died of Alzheimer's in the past year so I took this on with some trepidation. Once I started though, I could not put it down. Alice's insights into her disease are so honest and interesting. I laughed and I cried. Definitely didn't want it to end. ...more

Powerful! I became so caught up in Alice's story, her diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer's at age 50 and her struggle to retain some sense of self, that I was easily consumed by the emotions of it. By the end of the book, I was choking back tears. The use of Alice as the narrator was pure genius to convey just what a nightmare this woman's life becomes. It being a work of fiction was the farthest thought from my mind, as the terror of it seemed only too real, and, indeed, it reflects the fear we ...more

It's hard to believe this is a work of fiction. I wish I had read it when my father had dementia, so I could better understand what he was going through.
Beautifully written, gripping story from the Alzheimer patient's point of view. I've become a huge fan of Lisa Genova and her books. I hope she publishes another one soon!

I really enjoyed this novel. It wasn't a big tear-jerker like I thought it would be. It is well-written and very insightful into the world of Alzheimer's disease, particularly early on-set. Alice is a 50 year old Harvard professor with a full career, a husband, and three grown children. She has a rather perfect life. Then, she starts forgetting things. Little things here and there. One day she is out for a run, and can't remember where shet lives. She attributes these memory problems to menopaus ...more

This book is a horror story crafted with loving hands for anyone whose intellect is a big part of their identity.

Alice is at the prime of her career, admired for her work and known for her formidable academic talents. Then she starts forgetting things. Is it age setting in, or something worse? Who are we when who we were is no longer accessible?

Genova is a neuroscientist, and lucky for us, she has that rare ability to translate her scientific understanding of something like Alzheimer's into a re

This is a wonderful book. Fortunately having no connection to Alzheimer's, it was a very eye opening experience living the trials of person with early on set Alzheimer's. I fell in love with Alice Howland right from the first paragraph.

I found myself pulling for her, hoping to find a way to overcome her illness. Lisa Genova is a fantastic author! Can't wait for her next book!

Lisa Genova delivers a very powerful and beautiful first novel. Still Alice, though not a memoir, it has those qualities that draw you into believing this is someone’s life. The viewpoint is from Alice, a 50 year old tenured professor of Psychology at Harvard University, whose life work is figuring out how the brain processes language. With her self-worth strongly identified with her career, a diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s disease sends shock waves through her psyche and those of her husb ...more

This is the second book I have read by the author. She has a way of writing about medical disease people have and you’d think she actually went through it herself it is so real. This book is about a woman who is a Harvard Professor and at 50 gets Early On Set Alzheimer. It is really heart breaking what the woman and her family go through. It is an awful disease that I don’t think you really can understand until you know someone with it or read this book. It is a sad book but enlightening. The ch ...more

I can't say enough "good" about this book. Written from the viewpoint of a 50 year woman with Alzheimer's disease, it take you on her roller coaster decline. This was a disturbing book in the fact that I now seem to doubt every moment of forgetfulness I ever have. It will stay with me a long time. ...more

I had no idea when I began this book how long the story of Alice and what I learned about early alzheimers disease would stay with me. I was truly moved by Alice's story. I introduced STILL ALICE to my bookclub and each of the club members had the most insightful contributions of how the book affected them and/or how alzheimers has affected their family personally. I won't disclose too much of the story, but I most definitely recommend this book. ...more

The story of Alice, a 50 year old woman, diagnosed with early- onset Alzheimer's disease.
A most tragic story of a cruel disease. The author allows you inside the mind/life of the Alzheimer patient and the changes she and her family, friends & colleagues encounter as she progresses thru the disease.
It is a story that will haunt you. It is as believable as it is enlightening. I couldn't put the book down. This is a "must read"

Terrifying and heartbreaking but hard to put down. I hope and pray that researchers find something to at least slow down the progression of this disease, if not cure it. I'm looking forward to seeing this movie, though I know it will be tough to watch. ...more
