This was better than the first one, IMO. The story and romance were set at a far better pace. There was just enough of each at proper intervals to keep it fresh, and nothing was confusing about it like in the first one. Although I'm still not sure what Valentine's motives are for everything he has done to Jace (I know some spoilers), I still somewhat understand Valentine better as a character now than I did in the first book. Like City of Bones, City of Ashes quickly pulled me into the fantasy world Cassandra Clare has created. While there is still so much unknown to the reader about the lives and world of Shadowhunters, I felt like this book explored more of that world, and also more about it's characters.

The clockwork series is so much better! I can't handle the brother and sister thing. That is just the wrong way to approach a star crossed lovers situation. I gave this series another shot and now I'm done. Can't wait for clockwork princess though. ...more
