The Mercy Thompson's true power is in it's amazing cast of characters and world building. It's the truth. Because after raving about how awesome River Marked was because it was the first Mercy book that did not have a kidnapping of some kind for the plot . . . This has always been a series that I like, but I don't love it as much as a lot of people seem to. This installment was no different in that respect. The book started off quickly and, while the pace did slow a bit around the halfway mark, the plot always remained intriguing. I liked getting to see some of the pack members (and Stefan) again after their absence in the last book. I love the Mercy world, but I just read this and can't really remember what it's about. It's that forgettable. All I can remember is that the hostage situation is resolves rather quickly and then the Big Bad makes a surprise appearance at the end. The plot takes a serpentine route to get to the mystery of who is behind the attack on the wolves and then ends. ...more
