Cord and Anne have been whispering in my head since the moment I finished their story. It finally got loud enough and I gave in. My rating and original review still stands the same I loved this book from beginning to end. Cord and Anne are just such an amazing couple and I know without a doubt I will revisit them again.

Eyes of Silver Eyes of Gold is a story I have had on my wishlist on Goodreads for YEARS and I have no idea why I waited so long for this book. Its been on many lists on the Listopia and many readers rave about this book so I just knew that it was time to grab this book and READ it. While this book is not typically one I would pick up, it was recommended to me by a reader I trust and the reviews are super high. I give it three stars despite its many flaws. I can see why so many readers love it. This is an against the odds love story with a lot of family drama. While I did enjoy the story, I found myself mentally editing way more than normal, and that didn’t help me sustain suspended disbelief. I give big kudos to the author for putting out her best and it being a success. I While this book is not typically one I would pick up, it was recommended to me by a reader I trust and the reviews are super high. I give it three stars despite its many flaws. I can see why so many readers love it. This is an against the odds love story with a lot of family drama. While I did enjoy the story, I found myself mentally editing way more than normal, and that didn’t help me sustain suspended disbelief. I give big kudos to the author for putting out her best and it being a success. I’ve had more than one work of hers recommended to me, but I probably won’t be reading more by this author based on this novels lack of manuscript editing.

What I liked about the story:
1) The plot is compelling.

2) The protagonists Cord and Anne are wonderful characters.

3) The dialog has a marvelous genuine quality and I found myself laughing pretty hard at some of the banter.

What could be improved:
1) The writing, meaning the technical construction of the story and how it’s presented to the reader. I feel I need to caution readers with a higher level of education in writing. Anyone who can’t gloss over an overuse of Resisting the Urge to Explain (RUE) I don’t recommend you read this. This work has an abundance of novice writing mistakes including: an unbalanced narrative voice, to much narrative exposition and internal exposition monologues, awkward point of view transitions or what some call head hopping, and proportion problems. Most authors learn and improve their craft over time. I hope this one finds an editor she trusts, or spends some time reading writing craft books to learn how to improve her craft.
2) The antagonists were cliche, unbelievable, and more like bad guys from a cartoon than real.
3) I skimmed the ending of the book, because nothing really happens conflict or resolution wise after the 85% mark. So there’s this long unnecessary ending, and for me it was awkward.
4) The internal thoughts of virgin Anne the moment after she’s no longer a virgin. She compared her friends first time to hers and is internally making fun of Cord’s manhood in the midst of him apologizing for not being more considerate of her. That thought in that moment really rattled me and had me questioning Anne’s likability as a character. Anne’s opinion of her husbands manhood is never really redeemed or discussed during the next third of the book, and it sat in my mind when Anne and Cord move from unseen but inferred bedroom obligation to them kissing and lusting after each other.
