Lila was mentally and emotionally strong. Wow. With so much going on that she didn’t lose her mind is amazing.

This one was had some of the painful aspects of war and how soilders completely take advantage of the community. But there were some kind soldiers and some rebels that didn’t lay it down.
I loved Aleskey and his stoic demeanor. There was so much in the inside. So peeling that onion was intriguing.

I love the ending

This book is very well written, and the writing style manages to get you through the horrible subject and gruesome description and consequences of occupation. I think it is very brave for an author to write all the part of a hostile occupation and not try to romanticize this but I have to admit that some part were hard to read and made me cringe. I would definitely not advise this book for anyone under 18.
Even during the author you get a ray of sunshine and believe it or not it is not Lila – who is our main character no, it is Aleksey, a General of Neutrality. Good lord did Mya Robarts to a fantastic job writing him. Even in the milled of all the atrocities happening in the book that man manages to give me a hoard of wild butterflies in the pit of my stomach. He is so beautiful and broken but yet passionate and carrying and…*swoon* seriously though I would have read the book just for him.
Lila, what can I say about her – I liked her but I found her a little too childish sometimes. After all the atrocities she had witness I could understand her shortcoming but she sometimes seemed a bit of a brat which is quite annoying when everybody around her (including her) are suffering and she broke my Aleksey heart a few time which I wanted to push her for.
I feel like sometimes the characters, even very young one, are completely desensitized as far as sex, rape and abuse are concerned but it might be because they are raised in the world where rape is legal.
In conclusion: It is a very well written book with both beautiful loving moments and moments what will horrify you but it is worth reading.

Robarts' dystopic world is perhaps the strangest I've ever read, and seems to be purely a vehicle for a strange story about losing one's virginity. I'm afraid I just didn't get this book. Neither the world, nor the people in it, were particularly believable. Maybe it's just me, because plenty of people seemed to love it and found it hugely romantic, but I just found it cold and plain weird.
