The plot was extremely unbelievable, false and impossible. The entire basis of the storyline was shaky at best.

Take the entire burning down the village situation, for example. How is it possible for an entire army to ambush an entire village? Battalion is noisy, large and requires lots of supplies. No way can you sneak a This book, perhaps, might have been the worst in the series up till now! Take the entire burning down the village situation, for example. How is it possible for an entire army to ambush an entire village? Battalion is noisy, large and requires lots of supplies. No way can you sneak a battalion into a village and burn the entire village before you are caught. Where were the patrols and guards. No way, a warring race leaves their entire village unguarded for some tradition! Not to mention, how did they find the village in first place? If it was hidden, the first thought should be of a traitor. And if it wasn't, then why did the empress allow it to grow and develop for more than 1000 years?

That brings me to stupidity of the two "brilliant tacticians and strategists". There entirely ingenious plan is to RUSH them into an impenetrable fortress??? Because brute strength served them so well in 100 year war! This was just the best example of their IQ, not the only one.

The other thing that made no sense for me was the hate and anger. Let me just get this straight. An entire race hates a 5 year old for playing outside, which indirectly (like way indirectly)led to them losing the war; but they are completely alright following orders from the empress SON that actually killed and enslaved them? Not that, thatwas much of a surprise. And for that matter, if you follow that circular logic, it can easily be argued that Luykas was the cause of the war. After all, the Express might not have gone after the General's daughter if the said general had not taken Luykas from his mother. Basically, there is a five year old girl who is at wrong place at a wrong time who ends up as a slave for 1000 years v/s a 300 year old adult whose mother is the Empress responsible for subjugating an entire race and father who killed the queen of the said subjugated race - and the girl wins the award for being the most hated?? Wow!

Add in the conversation, where Alchan refuses to feel guilty for leaving her in the pits! And is an ass about it. They also make it very clear to her that they wouldn't have saved her except the guard insisted and add that they didn't know anything about her and if she was alive, only considered her a myth. Now, compare it to the fact that they get attacked immediately by Elvasi in a free country far away from the empire specifically targeting Mave. What? The information only goes one way? And again, we are talking about 1000 years here! Could it be more unbelievable?

And then, there is some more unreasonable drama, where the village (including her friend) then blames Mave for being responsible for the attack. And this all from a race that lives thousands of year! I would think they would learn some perspective, patience and damn military tactics.

There were many other irregularities too, like, their time on the ocean. Travelling by water is not like travelling by air. If the ship leaves one day earlier, it doesn't mean it reaches exactly one day earlier after two month journey! And you can very easily catch up with a warship.

Unfortunately, the characters were a bust for me too. I felt as if Mave devolves! All through the book, the only feeling she has is of anger. The bond between her and Luykas is not consistent either. And didn't Luykas created the bond to protect Mave from Empress? By the same logic, the bond should also protect him.

Basically, except for the writing, this book is... lacking! ...more

I’ve loved every single book in this series so far. The Warrior’s Assault had me reading quickly through the pages to see what would happen next and was happy to see the direction the series is going.

We pick up a few months after the events of book two with Mave settling into her new life with the Andinna and her males. She’s slowly learning all the things she had missed out on in her enslavement to the Empire. Mave is finding her happiness within their mountainside village. However, when the u I’ve loved every single book in this series so far. The Warrior’s Assault had me reading quickly through the pages to see what would happen next and was happy to see the direction the series is going.

We pick up a few months after the events of book two with Mave settling into her new life with the Andinna and her males. She’s slowly learning all the things she had missed out on in her enslavement to the Empire. Mave is finding her happiness within their mountainside village. However, when the unthinkable happens and Mave is crushed by the guilt, she’s forced to move forward and make things right again for herself and her people. Mave knows what she must do and the deadly costs of what could go wrong.

Oof, if this book didn’t hit in the god damn feels I don’t know what would. Their was so much pain and guilt riding on the events after the Spring Festival, I didn’t know how everyone would recover. However, in the beginning, we get to see Mave really come into her own as an Andinna and gain a true home for the first time in her life. It was so great to see herself settling in and trying to heal herself from the horrors of the past.

It’s still a process for her to heal. She still has times where she’s swallowed by the past, but she’s slowly learning to rely on others. It’s awesome to see. And she’s not the only one needing to heal. There is also Rain and Mat, who experienced a glimpse into the horrors Mave had to endure in the pits.

Mat and Bryn are such good males for Mave, and they work so well together. They are truly a family. There wasn’t much romantic developments in this book, just hints dropped here and there, but I was completely fine with that. I’m confident that Luykas and Zayden will be endgame at some point in the series. I was more here for the story anyway and it’s getting seriously good.

I’m a little sad I’ll never be able to see Alchan and Mave together, but their relationship now is something I’ll all about. Plus, I’m now totally on board for the whole Rain and Alchan thing if that does happen. Mave and Alchan have learned to respect one another and now must rely on each other for the future. I loved how they understood their thoughts for one another in unspoken ways and saw them come together at the end of this book. I’m confident they will be true friends at some point in the future!

The twist at the end was slightly expected (from Luykas’ side) but all the more appreciated to see a new side to the story that I hadn’t before! I’m excited to dive into it more and the implications of that secret being revealed to Mave, especially in terms of how their relationship will develop from there.

I’m so ready to read more of this series! It’s such a great epic fantasy and the slight twist of RH is definitely not the main focus of the books. It’s all about the story and character development. Highly recommended. ...more

I had so much to type out as I was reading the book, but now that I have gotten to the end, i'm just left wordless. That's just how beautifully crafted this story is. This world is. These people are. I had so many expectations and I had ideas on where the story would go from the end of the last book...and this book just blew them up and what I got was something so much better and so much more real.
