This was really close to 5-stars for me (particularly given the genre, which is often full of a lot of tropes, vapid girls, dick-wads, one-dimensional characters). I highly recommend, and DON'T BE PUT OFF ON THE COVER. It is known.

Moving on...Strap in for a long-ass read, but one with a great pay off at the end. If you like slow burn, this is the equivalent of one of those candy necklaces you can buy at the corner store. You just keep munching and munching and munching, and before you know it it This was really close to 5-stars for me (particularly given the genre, which is often full of a lot of tropes, vapid girls, dick-wads, one-dimensional characters). You just keep munching and munching and munching, and before you know it it's 3:00 am and you click your e-reader close, wondering what has happened to those 5 hours.

So we have Faith (I kind of like that her name is a bit twang-y) and asshole Aron. Only, he's not really an asshole. He's just kind of an alien, out of his element, and angry/confused. Entitled. Arrogant (we find out why, beyond him being a god). They have a great dynamic, and I love that she puts him in his place frequently. Gosh, I love it when girls are mean to guys (in a playful way, of course). And Aron eats it up like candy, laughing. They have great chemistry--you can tell they are both confident in themselves and just zinging off one another. YUM.

The reason this is so long is that it follows a very convoluted "journey to who-the-hell-knows" plot. They try to figure out Why is Aron here? How did Faith get there? What does it mean she's an anchor? They meet lots of hobbits and dragons along the way (I jest, but it starts to feel a bit like a high-fantasy journey novel). If that plot device annoys you, this isn't the book for you.

So, like I said, great chemistry. BUUUUUUTTTTT... when (view spoiler)

So, I'm taking a half-star or whatever-the-eff off for that. The end was a bit of a let-down for me, and a head-scratcher with respect to character development. Don't let this put you off, though. It's seriously worth it, and I'm going to scramble to scoop up more Dixon books, in spite of the cover art. ...more

5 Amazing Stars!

Wow!! This book was so awesome, I can’t even put it in words.

I went into reading this book thinking it would be a cute, light, fluffy and quick read. It turned out to be 650+ pages of pure brilliance!

The story had everything I could ask for in a book. The characters were amazing and relatable. The world building was magnificent. The progression of the story/plot-line and relationship was believable. I had no idea how the book was going to end, the author kept me guessing big ti ...more

Super fun and classic Ruby Dixon but with amped up storyline and world-building
Faith volunteers to be an anchor for the battle god, Aron. An anchor is someone that'll guide and teach human life lessons to their god. Aron has been punished by his father and is now bound to the world and is arrogance personified. Together they go on a journey of violence, life lessons, laughs, and so much dirty talk and they end in a satisfactory HEA.

I think I’m going to be adding Ruby Dixon to one of my favorite authors. I’ve read enough of her books, majority of them rated high, for me to make this assessment.

Once again, I’ve noticed mix feelings demonstrated in the reviews. Some enjoyed it and others thought it was too long. I think if we’re going to be fair, it’s a bit of both.
