I can literally add this to my "You don't know how good you've go it" shelf, right next to Aquariums of Pyongyang and Infidel.
All are detailed accounts of life in another culture, concurrent with my own time, of which I had but the barest (or flat wrong) understanding.
I guess I am no longer astonished by how easily an author can peel back the layers of my ignorance to the worlds all around me.
I enjoyed the writing, and the lessons: medical, anthropological, political and military history.
