The Starless Sea is about Zachary Ezra Rawlins who ends up finding a book in his college library and is set on the adventure of a lifetime. This book is so much more than that basic synopsis but it is one that I believer you should go into without much context.
How do you talk about a book that is a new favorite and that, if anyone asked what your favorite book is, you'd hand to them to read? That's this book for me. It took me on a wild journey that left wanting more in the end and left me feel ...more

This novel is filled with some of the most gorgeous quotes I’ve ever read. The writing style was flowerier than flowery but often the descriptions got outright confusing and frustrating, to the point where it was overwhelming. Reading it felt like a fever dream... in fact there’s a line in this book that sums it up perfectly: “Like I’m losing my mind, but in a slow, achingly beautiful sort of way.”
It was the inception of books. My brain is exhausted. But, wow. It was pretty magical.

It took me a while to actually finish this one but that doesn’t take away the fact that I absolutely adored it. Erin Morgenstern is a wordsmith who gives me the perfect form of escapism. Her worlds are so lush and magical that you get swept away and feel like you are floating in the Starless Sea along with the characters. In this book she truly proves that she know exactly what stories mean to people. This is right up there with the Night Circus and I will never stop recommending it.

dnf @ 16%. the plot was not interesting enough for me to slog through the incredibly boring and unrealistic infodump sections.

4/5 Stars
So....I have sort of have an idea what I just listened to, but also not a whole lot. Mainly, my rating is for the end. I felt a sense of peace and nostalgia for some reason. I really loved this SO much more than The Night Circus. I didn't love that book, but this one was hard to describe and I don't really know what the point of it was supposed to be. I loved the characters, and their endings, but I'm also a little confused. ...more

I don't have a good explanation for this book just yet. As I just finished it. Normally books don't take me as long to read like this one did, it had nothing to do with the author, and everything to do with my reading. 2019 was just a sluggish reading year, for some unbeknownst reason. But other than that I loved it and definitely enjoyed reading it.

I am not ready to put a rating yet. I love love the night circus. This book left me so conflicted. Also when I found out what the "starless sea" was....it was definitely a wtf moment.
