City of Lies is an impressive debut that had me captivated and intrigued from very early on. Jovan and Kalina were interesting narrators and, although I didn't really connect with either of them, it didn't matter as the plot was compelling and complex enough to carry the story. Politics features heavily, and behind-the-scenes scheming means you can never quite be sure who or what the Big Bad is. Interesting premise but story is extremely slow and doesn't get going until the last 100 pages or so. Execution of the story leaves a lot to be desired but overall not terrible. ...more
