[close] This book was so unexpected for me. I was actually looking for the dvd and got the first chapter excerpt from the library's website. From the very beginning I was drawn in by Pat's voice. He is so honest and earnest. Pat is not perfect he has big issues and so does almost everyone he knows;but he is trying to become a better man. This story is better because of the flaws in the characters and their lives. The movie didn't do it justice.

I would actually give this a 2.5 star. I found most of it to be frustrating to read. Pat sounded like a 12 year old boy, and maybe that was do to the medications he was taking. I also saw the movie and they are quite a bit different from each other. I found the book while not difficult to read - more of a frustrating read. However, I was satisfied with the ending. The last chapter is what bumped it from a 2 to a 2.5 for me. However, I don't think I would be seeking out to read any more of this a ...more
