Wow. Everyone I know that has read it told me good things, but frankly the unsettling idea of human cells (and research) being done or used without consent never sounded like a story I was interested in. This book is so much more than that. It includes the personal history of Henrietta Lacks and appeals to me as a practicing dentist because I get to see just how far we have come with advancements not only in science and research, but also ethics, informed consent, confidentiality, etc. Highly re

Not having a science background I really didn't know about HeLa cells, and found this to be a very interesting book. While I don't know anyone that embraces HIPPA this book helps one appreciate the privacy aspect more, however, in the afterward finding out about the tissue samples is a bit scary. Henrietta was a very spunky woman and I wish her children had the opportunity to get to know her - especially Deborah. I can also understand their reluctance in talking with reporters.
