This is a book I have heard so much about, so I probably had large expectations for it. I enjoyed the writing, and it was a good story. However, I never really connected to any of the characters. Tom is an abusive jerk. Daisy wants her daughter to be a fool. I doubt Daisy would think that she is a fool, but that is what she is. Jordan really didn't add anything to the story. Perhaps I was too young to truly appreciate this book when I read it in high school. But I did not enjoy the plot, the characters, or the writing style. I just couldn't connect with the characters nor undestand their motives or their decisions. Perhaps now that I have a larger experience base I can better relate to the book, but I just don't know if I can make myself give The Great Gatsby another try. (First Read in 1999.)

I read this when I was in high school, and decided to read it again. And I'm glad I did. Not only did I not remember a lot of the story, but as I was reading it I realized that I have a much greater appreciation for the story now that I'm older. There's only so much a 15 year old can understand about love, loss, wealth, dreams, longing, failure, etc. It was definitely a more meaningful read at this point in my life.

It was ok. There seemed to be an overabundance of superfluous language. I feel this way about many of the "classics".
