AMAZING story. This was so hard to put down, I fell in love with these characters and started to feel like I knew them on a personal level the deeper I got into the story. I loved how the story was told from three character's point of view. You get a different "feel" for it at different angles. Even though this book is fiction I know it is based on real life black maids working for white families and this book dives so deep into how personal some of those relationships were that it made me mad a

I'm not really certain whether I liked this book, so went with a middle-of-the-road three stars. Not horrible, not fabulous. It was enjoyable to get to know some of the characters. Some of the vignettes were interesting, funny and/or disturbing. I'm thinking (hoping) this is one of those rare instances where I'll enjoy the movie more than the book. UPDATE: I did enjoy the movie much more than the book. But if you are looking for 5-Star reading material on similar subjects, check out My Soul Is R

What a book! I think the last book I read that was this good was "A Thousand Splendid Suns". This story was so much more than a book about civil rights. Suspense, romance, family relationships... along with a good dose of the horrors that close-minded individuals inflicted upon others during the sixties. The characters here so believable, so human. And, the events didn't occur in a "fictionally-construed-perfect-happy-ending" kind of way - it felt real, probably because it was, at some level for

Great book! One of the best books I've read in a long time. A novel. 1960s in Jackson, Mississippi. Interviews with "the help" So good.

Between Minny, Aibileen, and Skeeter, I absolutely loved this book. It took me about a week to finish it, and probably would have finished it sooner if I had more time! It was one that I did not want to put down, and those are rare for me. The book is set in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960's and revolves around the interactions between the maids, homeowners, and a writer. Do not be dismayed by the cover, however, as it looks like it is a book for women, but this book is for everyone who lov

I listened to the audio version. I REALLY liked all the narrators.
This is a very funny and moving story about civil rights in Mississippi in the 1960's, from various perspectives.
Good character development and fast paced enough for my ADD. I really enjoyed it. ...more

I enjoyed this book. Maybe the southern pace slowed me down, because I didn't get though it as fast as I wanted. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. There were some great one liners and paragraphs in this book that I really enjoyed.

This was an awesome book. Stockett did an excellent job of capturing the building tension of the time. This book has made me want to now read "To Kill a Mockingbird" which the author references. Hope the movie does it justice. Excellent read.

Amazing. All you need to know is that, as slow as I read, I was able to read it's 500+ pages in one checkout period. It was that good.

While very good and intriguing, it didn't quite live up to all of the hype from friends and co-workers.
