The beauty of this book is in the way the author captures the voice of each character--and so it translates wonderfully into an audiobook, especially with a narrator as skilled as Anne Flosnik. Little Bee's Nigerian cadence, as well as Sarah's flat London British accent, were so true to life truly felt like they were right there, telling me their amazing story. Little Bee, who often speaks in parables and metaphors, relates what it is like to be a Nigerian refugee struggling to survive our moder ...more

Little Bee and her sister met Sarah and Sarah's husband, Andrew, during an unfortunate interaction on a beach in Nigeria. Two years later, Little Bee is released from an Immigration Refugee center in the UK and calls Andrew from the business card she kept from the beach two years ago to let him know she is on her way to their home. Unfolds a beautiful, chilling story about the relationship between the two women, Little Bee and Sarah, and what truly happened at the beach and in their lives.

For a book that starts so strongly and came so highly recommended I found this to be pretty disappointing. I really liked the parts told by Little Bee, the phrase "And then the men came" will probably haunt me forever. Then the book would switch to Sarah, who I felt no connection with. This book is about how one moment can alter lives - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Little Bee has esaped Nigeria to find Andrew and Sarah - the only people that she knows outside of her village. Now they have to deal with the event that brought them together along with the consequences alo ...more

I really really enjoyed this book & found myself captivated until nearly the end. The end was the problem though, I felt the author wrapped up the story too quickly, I wanted more from it. The rest of the book was so well written I guess I was expecting more.

Finished for the second time. I re-read it for an upcoming book-club discussion. I think I took more away from it this time but still unsure about the ending.
