I would never have read this book if it wasn't a book club selection. Jenny Worth does a great job of telling a story - almost like it is fiction. There are times I cringed, laughed, smiled, and was horrified while reading this. Hard to believe that this was taking place in the 1950s and not further back in history. One lady in my book club said she was 100% against midwives, but now thinks differently. I'm looking forward to checking out the series by PBS now.

I was excited to come across the journals of Jenny Lee in book form since I am a big fan of the PBS series Call the Midwife. Thoroughly enjoyed the book though some of the stories were even more grim that what is shown on television.
The narrative voice is very distinctive and clear. Each chapter can be a stand alone story. I found the story telling style excellent and learned a lot about midwifery and pregnancy.
it was really quite good. I can't imagine a guy would enjoy this one too much though... am curious to seek out one or two episodes of the tv program.
