This is an excellent book for 3rd - 8th graders (8-14 years old), Unlike most books about Little Rock in the 50's, this book takes place in 1958, the year AFTER the "Little Rock Nine" school crisis. In 1958, in Little Rock, the authorities closed the High School rather than submit to Federal order insisting on integration. The schools stayed closed for most of the year and the crisis escalated.
