I'm really enjoying this series so far. It has been on the tbr for years, and I'm glad to finally be getting to it. The only thing keeping this book from scoring a 5/5 for me is personal enjoyment. It doesn't quite hit the same level as some other fantasy for me, but I could see that changing based on how the next few books turn out. ...more

Shelves: fantasy-fiction

An excellent start to a trilogy. Great world building, interesting characters, and a good plot. It drags in places and could have used a little trimming. Also for a super secret, don't tell anyone ever, assassin's apprenticeship, everyone seems to know what's going on. However these are minor quibbles in an otherwise fantastic book. ...more
