This was a very difficult, thought provoking read. It made me think of the nature of tyranny, and how while people think "it couldn't happen here" or "it couldn't happen to us" - it most certainly does. That literature will always be important to freedom is beyond question. Some see the fight against censorship as trivial, but it lies at the heart of all of our freedoms, including pursuit of happiness, as those of us without a book in their hands will tell you. Reading Lolita in Tehran is the fascinating memoir of a woman professor who lived and taught in Tehran during the time of the revolution and Iran-Iraqi war. Wonderful insight into what life is like for a woman under radical Islamic leadership. I learned a lot about what was going on inside Iran during the time of the Ayatollah Khomeni. I consider this book a "must read"--especially for women who want to understand more about the plight of women in other cultures.
