I think this is the funniest audiobook I have ever listened to! Hungary is just emerging from the Soviet era, the police sometimes try, but corruption is rampant and anti-crime funds are nonexistent. The whiskey robber is quite a character: a hockey goalie for a very bad team, a gentleman bandit, a gambler, a master of disguises, an alcoholic, a careful planner - who hides the money in his oven. The author had a great way with words describing the old Hungary tiptoeing into a more modern area. A ...more

Read this for book club. It's the true story of a Transylvanian man. Attila Ambrus who sneaks into Hungary and becomes a hockey player, a pelt smuggler, and an infamous bank robber.
