Like everyone said...this book could have been great, however it just went on too long. So, the first 300 pages were very good and interesting and should have ended by page 350 because the rest of it just droned on and on and on. And, I love long books - so, it is not the length that turned me off - it was just boring after that! Too bad...great concept!

Although this is perhaps one of the LONGEST books I have ever read, the story was extremely interesting. I'm simply amazed at all the research the author had to have done to pull off such a cohesive product. Basically the Historian is a story about a girl and her father (and mother to some extent). One day the girl begs the father to take her with him as he travels on business and he begins to tell her a story of his and her mother's search for Dracula (and a missing advisor/parent). This is the first ever vampire book I've read. I've just never been that interested inthem so this is probably a good read for me. While Dracula and his friends do make appearances the focus of the book is an historical quest. As such I found it quite interesting. The narrator changes back and forth between characters and at times I found myself a couple of sentences into a paragraph before I realised the narrator had changed which was a little off putting. Good book, I couldn't get by the whole chapters of flowery descriptions of places. I mean, some description is good, but I found myself drifting off into my head after pages of descriptions of churches in little towns. The story was very well written though. I like it. ...more
