This is a fluffy beach book, pure and simple. It's predicable, and ridculous to the extreme. I definitely agree with an earlier reviewer...reading this is like watching an episode of reality TV on VH1...stimulating in a cheap way that reminds you how lucky you are to be one of the "real" people.
I'm actually kind of ashamed that there's an entire chick-lit section to begin with. I've never read anything in it that makes women out to be as strong, independent, and 3-dimensional as their male coun ...more

Currently on page 136, about 1/3 the way through the book. I'm having difficulty moving ahead because I'm frustrated with this relationship. I don't understand why Dex doesn't do something...call off the marriage or something. Why is he hurting 2 women by not taking a stand? Why is both leading Darcy on with a false sense of security and allowng Rachelle to suffer with the thought of them having no future together? I won this book from goodreads. Yay goodreads! It was a good quick chick lit read. I enjoyed reading this book, so much so I bought the sequel and waited until reading it to review either.
The characters are well described, though sometimes I find myself yelling at them, "WHY? Why would you do that??" But I yell at a lot of books.
The story follows Rachel, who we are supposed to read as an average gal with a crazy, controlling best friend. I believe we can all agree that chick lit heroines are ra ...more

At first glance, Something Borrowed looks like your typical romantic novel made particularly for female readers. You know the type, girl in her 30's worries that she will never find a husband and die alone, but somehow miraculously meets the man of her dreams and lives happily ever after...an unlikely scenario for those of us who live in the real world.
After reading it, however, it was nothing like what I imagined at all. There's romance, sure, but also deception, humor and irony. On top of that ...more

This was a fast read and I could hardly believe how caught up I was in the heroine's love angst. I recommend this book to all readers. I can't wait to read another book by Emily Giffin. I just wish her book covers were a little more exciting than they are.

Based on the good reviews I was looking forward to reading this book. I even re-ordered it from the library when I didn't pick it up from the holds shelf the first time.
Very disappointing. Ms Giffin's writing wasn't bad but the story was flat. ...more
