A delightful romp through the pyramids and sandy plains of Egypt. Peabody is a delightful, spunky narrator--much like Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice. I was a little disappointed that the mystery did not revolve around a murder, that so much of the plot was driven by the characters' witty and florid conversations and observations of the byzantine social rules of Victorian England, and that it wasn't frankly more Indiana Jones-esque (not quite a swashbuckling adventure) as its back cover promise

You HAVE GOT to listen to this on cd or download it. The narrator Barbara Rosenbladt is amazing. You feel like you're there with all the characters - I especially enjoy her epithets while in the voice of Emerson: Father of Curses. (DAMnation!) I read all the first books and flipped to audio at some point. I plan on going back and re-listening to the first ones. The characters grow and develop as the books/time progress. Amelia is fun and quite real - she contradicts herself in a subtle way which
