The copy of the book I recently saw in the book store had a blurb on the cover praising the novel from C.S. Lewis. That's appropriate I think. Clarke has always been interested in religious, spiritual and paranormal themes and they're evident in the book. The type of idea that should drive real sci-fi.
Enjoyed the read, but it's dated now, and yet still enjoyable: reminiscent of films such as, 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' and 'Forbidden Planet' - it has that feel about it for me.
Not sure if this would get past an editor today - the style while good at the time is often tell. ...more
