This book should be titled: "Persig's Ego Trip Surrounded by Lots of Gobbly-Gook and a Few Minute Nuggets of Wisdom." In my opinion, it was not worth the time it took to read. I forced myself to finish but really wish I had used my precious reading time for better things. It sounds like the motorcycle/camping/hiking trip could have been fun. Holy crap! This book was hard work- I know the writer was an extremely clever guy, and this book was a phenomenon when it came out in the 70's, but it just made me angry.
Three books in one-the story of the writer and his son on their motorbiking trip across the USA was perhaps the most interesting of the three for me, though the son appeared to have a hard time of it, asking frequently why they just kept going and going, frequently in tears, and travelling with a father who though fond of him,

My boyfriend gave me this book as I was leaving for a semester to study abroad because he read it when he was studying in a different country and he really liked how it was about traveling and finding inner peace. I desperately tried to like it. It was difficult to like, and many times I wanted to put it down and tell him it just wasn't for me. I don't know what it was about it but I just really didn't want to read it most of the time.
