I saw the movie first and was completely blown away by the imagery of the film, and I immediately went out and bought the book. The writing style consumes the reader and makes you feel as if you are experiencing the same things as Grenouille, which is a rare treat.

By far one of the strangest books I've ever read. Suskind's ability to capture the sense of smell--using, of course, the medium of the written word--is absolutely phenomenal. This story about a serial killer with an incredible sense of smell is both chilling and facinating. Author-wise, Suskind reminds me of Palahniuk--regardless of what you think of the books themselves, you've gotta admit they're some of the most distinctive you've ever read.

This book was definitely creepy. The main character is a man with an extremely sensitive sense of smell who set out to find and recreate the perfect scent. The ending is so twisted and so strange but also totally unexpected. Not sure that I would recommend this to everyone I know but definitely an interesting read.
Had a slow spot for me in the middle, but it may have just been me being anxious to finish up another book I was reading at the time. The last hundred or so pages seemed to fly by and kept me interested. Finished it at 2:30 am. :)
