This novel centered upon twins, the boy Estha and the girl Rahel, during a crucial time when they're seven-years-old in 1969 and when they're reunited 24 years later. I found many of the cultural details depicting modern India intriguing: the complex interplay between religion, politics, region, ethnicity, race, gender, the colonial legacy and especially caste.

Another Man Booker Prize winner which I was not overly impressed with.
The God of Small Things, set in Kerala India, is yet another novel focused on caste prejudices and racial intolerance.
This is a story of how a young girl's tragic drowning and a mother's forbidden love have a devastating and lasting effect on two young Indian twins.
While at times I found this tragic tale moving, I got rather fed up with the constant switching between the past and present. The prose was also over the top with ...more

I just started reading this book with the the group "Banned Books Club" here on Goodreads. I'm only at the very beginning, but I am REALLY enjoying it so far. I love her writing style.
