McCarthy is among the most unreadable authors I've ever encountered. If all McCarthy's books are like this, tell me so I can stay away from them. We're talking about the kind of author that dumps the grammar book into the trash because, of course, as a Profound Genius(tm) he's beyond that. No quotation marks. Almost no apostrophes. First 65 pages are very slow. I did not enjoy the initial journeying nor the slow pace of the storyline. In addition, I have difficulty tracking the punctuation dearths in McCarthy's books, so that was very difficult.
All that said, this is a coming of age story in all its glory. We learn through the story that the journey of life will be fraught with key decisions and crossroads and our response determines our moral fiber. Plenty of points allow Cole to do the wrong thing if he wants, but instea ...more
