I've heard really good things about Cormac McCarthy and his Border Trilogy series, but as I was reading this book, I just couldn't understand where all this praise was coming from. This book was super boring; 100 pages of two young boys traveling by horse to Mexico, 10 pages of semi-action when a horse gets stolen, 50 pages of a love story I had no interest in, and only about 30 good pages about prison, followed by 100 more pages of crap I didn't care about. Cormac McCarthy has one of the clearest and most powerful literary voices of all living writers. This is one of his most accessible books, and brought him to the notice of mainstream readers and reviewers. McCarthy has a connection to his voice and the unconscious that other writers can only dream of.
