As per the recommendation from my sister-in-law, I borrowed both from her: the movie and the book. She recommended that I watch the movie first, then read the book. I watched the movie about half a year ago. Pretty good story, the characters were wonderful, and I balled my head off.

The book was good, but I have to say, although I'm sure I'm probably going to be bombarded after this, that I enjoyed the movie more than the book. I preferred the ending in the movie over the ending of the book.

I read this in a Sudafed haze so I really thought that I would like it because I like most everything in a Sudafed haze. And I "liked" it... I guess. But that is about it. I kept searching for the stand out book that was recommended to me by so many and almost two hundred thousand goodreaders have read. Here's how my reading progressed: "Are you serious? Loved the book, liked the movie. One thing I can't stand, though, is how Nicholas Sparks' books frequently include a woman emotionally "cheating" on her current boyfriend/fiance in order to discover her true love. This goes against all I believe in regarding relationships. Yes, it's always a wonderful love story, but do we have to have the woman have two love interests? Really? ...more

I watched the movie a few years ago and cried. I read the book now and cried again. However, I thought the writing was awful and clunky--trying way to hard to be poetic. I cried because of the storyline, not how it was written.
