I liked the premise of this novel, a tale of the Clovis people of the Pleistocene, the stone age hunters who crossed the Siberian Bering land bridge to become the ancestors of the native tribes of America. The husband and wife writing team are archeologists, and certainly must have the technical knowledge to ground the tale. You can tell the authors are well-versed in this time period. I believe they are professors. So, this series has earned a reputation of being really excellent historical fiction during the prehistoric period. (Like Clan of the Cave Bear.) However, it reads almost like an article for an historical fiction journal. Detailed, yet dry. I never felt any real connection to any of the characters.
