Very sobering look at the Battle of Gettysburg. Author Michael Shaara gives us a sympathetic view of some of the leaders on both sides of the fight. I found myself cheering for them all; and wishing so much that Lee would retreat and spare all those lives.
A lot of detail of a battle is not my favorite reading, but this book did such a beautiful job of bringing to life the major characters of the battle at Gettysburg! It was so significant to read this book at this time for me as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of that event. The violence described in the battles was too graphic for me.
