Another book from the "Whitcoulls top 100" list, and it's easy to see why it would have popular appeal. It is an easy read, has a strong female character, is a love story in pioneer times and full of family conflicts. It has been compared to the Gabaldon books, carries a recommendation from Gabaldon herself and was that Jamie and Claire mentioned in passing early in the book? That was seriously weird.

This series is the closest I have come to finding a historical series that is as satisfying and addictive as Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Though Donati's novels arent as modernly humorous or as charming as Gabaldon's, this series is still worth the reading. These are the only books that have even come close for me. They combine moderately accurate historical facts with an enjoyable mix of adventure and romance. (Random humorous side note: Donati is actually very good friends with Gabaldon,
