Once upon a time, I sat down to watch a very popular movie (at the time) that I was expecting to be extremely entertaining with tons of drama and maybe some scandal. The Girl with the Pearl Earring is a beautiful, romantic story! It is a book that I would have enjoyed sitting down with on a cold winter evening in front of a fire in the fireplace wrapped in a warm blanket.
I was struck with the theme of "seeing" and "not seeing" on so many levels in the novel. A college writing project on that would have been a lot of fun. ...more

I thought this book was fairly good. I go through historical fiction phases, and I read this during one of those. I really like Tracey Chevalier, but didn't think this was one of her most interesting books.
