Not for the faint of heart, even if you're a history buff. Penman's books are incredibly researched and beautifully realized, but holy heck, they're LONG, and you can definitely get lost in the details. I read this in high school during a Brit Lit course, and I felt lucky that I not only studied the War of the Roses in my history class, but also got to visit York, England the same year. The cover says this is a novel of Richard III, but I'm halfway through this 900 page novel, and Richard's brother, Edward the I-forget-what-number has just about kicked the Lancastrians out of town for good, and Richard is still just the little brother. Great stories. So rich and full of fascinating info that it's a big-fat page turner.
