Wow, this is an old 'un. I got it from the library because of a recommendation in a column in "The Week." A fascinating way to study a slice of Roman history--a fictitious account written from the POV of Claudius, who followed some of the most debauched Caesars of Rome to the throne--and in this book, anyway, he is presented as a true republican (in the Roman Empire sense of that term).
