What Members Thought

I had trouble really getting into this book at the beginning, but once I put in some good reading sessions, I really enjoyed it. It gives a little insight into the horrors that have befallen the Afghani people in recent history although, does not give the absolute horrors that some people would like. The story was written well and I really connected with the narrator and felt all his emotions.

So much has already been said about this book. The material is powerful, and it gives a look into Afghanistan that you can't get on CNN. Highly emotional and graphic in parts, but it is gripping in its sense of reality. There were a few parts where it seemed to get slow, but then again it's hard to keep up such a highly charged pace in a novel like this.

This book was not what I expected. I usually don't read books that don't have a description on the back. (The paperback version of this book has only quotes from reviews.) But I picked it up anyway because I'd heard only good things about it. I'm glad I did. This book was at times raw and painful to read, but wholly spectacular in its descriptions of Afghanistan. I would definitely read it again.

i wrote a 15 page paper on this book my senior year of college. it was the best thing i had read in 2 years. granted hosseini ends the book with all the ends perfectly tied, which is a bit unrealistic, it gave insight to what a pre-taliban afghanistan was like in an engrossing way where it was hard to put the book down.

I liked this book but didn't love it as much as other people I know. It's the story of two boys of very different backgrounds growing up in Afghanistan. I almost feel like maybe I should read this one again since everyone else seemed to love it so much-maybe I missed something.
