I liked it. I found the characters genuine enough, and I liked Claire's attitude. I felt the connection between Claire and Jamie, and I liked Diana's description of not only the characters but the surroundings as well. It felt like you were there, watching it all unfold. I felt the characters sorrows, terrors, hopes and desperations, just like a good book should make you feel. I was worried that 850 pages were too long for such a story, but was delighted to being proven wrong. The book was intri

A beautiful story set in 18th century and 1940's Scotland with elements of love, history, geography, time-travel, war, and humor. (what a combination). The narrator made this book even more mesmerizing with her accents and voice inflections - smooth and lovely English "Claire", strong Scottish "Jamie", and cruel, evil Black Jack Randall. I loved the narration so much I can't switch back to reading, so I'm on to Book 2 - Dragonfly in Amber on audio book as well.

My hairdresser made me do it. He raved about this series and even sent me a copy in the mail. (I seriously love my hairdresser.)
I also love historical fiction so I was game. And I loved the idea of learning more about the Scottish Highlands in the mid-1700s. Scene where she tells him she feels uncomfortable having sex with him and he says “enjoy it or I’ll do it anyway”, another scene where she says “please stop- you’re hurting me”, scene where he beats her and then we are made to feel sorry for him later, and gay panic.
I enjoyed the scenes with Gellie and Jenny and just about none of the actual “romance” scenes. Maybe it was because of the 1740s or maybe because it was written almost 30 years ago... but man that was not great.

I had read this when this first came out, but had forgotten how well written it is. Yes, there is some juicy sex between Claire and Jamie, but the research she put into this book is wonderful. The historical aspect is well researched. I can't wait read the rest.

Every bit as fabulous as everyone always told me! The audio CD is amazing, too...Jamie's Scottish brogue in particular. And for once, my procrastination pays off, because I don't have to wait years for the sequels!
